The Healthy Schools Partnership Applauds the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation on Launch of Major

Coalition of food and beverage manufacturers, retailers, and other non-governmental organizations to focus efforts on the marketplace, workplace, and schools

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Healthy Schools Partnership (HSP) today commended the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation on the launch of a major national initiative aimed at addressing obesity in America. The leadership of the three HSP partner organizations, Susan Finn, PhD, RD, President and CEO of the American Council for Fitness and Nutrition Foundation, Anne Flannery, President and CEO of PE4life, and Katie Brown, Ed.D., RD, National Nutrition Education Director, American Dietetic Association Foundation released the following statement:

"We applaud the leadership of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, its partners, and supporters, for coming together to tackle one of America’s greatest health challenges – the obesity epidemic. The Healthy School Partnership is proud that our model – combining nutrition coaching and physical education in schools – will be the foundation upon which the Healthy Weight Commitment builds the school-based program."

Building upon the successful PE4life program that has remade the traditional physical education class, the Healthy Schools Partnership is an innovative, school-based program, designed to integrate a nutrition curriculum with physical education in a fun and engaging way. The program uses Registered Dietitian Nutrition Coaches alongside PE4life teachers to motivate students. Using this novel approach, HSP’s three partners – the American Council for Fitness & Nutrition Foundation, the American Dietetic Association Foundation (ADAF), and PE4life – have challenged traditional methods and revolutionized the teaching of nutrition and physical education.
