Hugh Grant

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Monsanto Company

Hugh Grant is chairman and chief executive officer of Monsanto Company a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality. Monsanto remains focused on enabling both small-holder and large-scale farmers to produce more from their land while conserving more of our world's natural resources such as water and energy – increasingly critical goals as the world’s population is projected to increase by one-third by 2050.

Mr. Grant joined Monsanto in 1981. Since then he has served in a variety of product and management positions on three continents, including the role of executive vice president and chief operating officer prior to assuming the role of Chairman, President and CEO in 2003. In 2012, Mr. Grant became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, with Brett Begemann assuming the role of President.

For more than a decade, the people of Monsanto have dedicated themselves to the business of improving agriculture in a variety of crops, including corn, cotton, oilseeds, wheat, sugar cane and vegetables. The company is the leading producer of in-the-seed trait technologies, which help protect farmers’ crop yields, support efficiency and reduce on-farm costs. These Monsanto products are broadly licensed to other companies and are made available to farmers around the world. The company also manufactures Roundup® and other herbicides used by farmers, consumers and lawn-and-garden professionals.

Born in Larkhall, Scotland, Mr. Grant earned a bachelor’s of science degree in agricultural zoology with honors at Glasgow University. He also earned a post-graduate degree in agriculture at Edinburgh University, and a master’s of business administration at the International Management Centre in Buckingham, United Kingdom.
